Windows Camera Recorder

Record cameras locally and sync to QNAP NAS.

Camera NAS Recorder is a Windows desktop app for always-on camera capture, live view, motion-only recording, local cache protection, and optional QNAP NAS sync.

English public release. No default NAS credentials included.

What it does

  • Live camera view before recording
  • Continuous or motion-only MP4 recording
  • Local cache with storage limits
  • Optional sync to a QNAP network share
  • Date and time overlay
  • Playback from the recordings list

How it works

  1. Install the app on Windows.
  2. Add a camera and confirm it in Live View.
  3. Choose local-only recording or NAS sync.
  4. Enable auto-start at sign-in if desired.

Why I built it

We had many places in the company that needed cameras, and we had already bought multiple QVR-style camera devices. The problem was that they stored footage separately, their capacity was inconsistent, and their stability was uneven.

I needed a simpler and more reliable way to consolidate recordings into one larger, centrally managed place instead of leaving every camera isolated in its own storage silo.

Why local cache + NAS sync

  • Local recording remains stable when the network becomes unreliable
  • Finished footage can move to a larger central storage target later
  • Operators do not need to manage every camera as an isolated storage island
  • The workflow stays simple enough for small teams without a full VMS rollout

Privacy by default

  • No bundled NAS password
  • No bundled NAS username
  • No personal network paths
  • No preconfigured cameras
